In 2019, ASU Library debuted a booth at Phoenix Fan Fusion (PhxFF), an annual pop culture convention, to build awareness of the library’s broader community offerings. We needed to design a booth experience that could compete for attention at a crowded convention while highlighting the library’s unexpected but relevant resources– without losing authenticity in a fan-driven environment.

I conceptualized a booth identity inspired by the “Thanos snap” from Marvel’s Infinity War, with bold, on-theme graphics and props. I also led a workshop teaching staff and students how to screen print custom shirts featuring the booth design and managed live social coverage throughout the weekend. The booth attracted significant foot traffic and positive feedback from attendees. The event helped reshape perceptions of the ASU Library as modern and engaged, while building morale and cross-team collaboration internally.
I was assigned as the social media manager for this event and documented our presence at the event– including several panels where library staff were panelists. The silk screen printing workshops I ran for library students and staff were for a shirt design I had developed as a panel giveaway.
The library participating in this event was seen as an incredible success for it introduced the library as being accessible not only to students but to the community at large. Those that participated also reported that it was an incredible morale booster, not only the interactions they had with event attendees but in the fact that this was the first time people from each of the different departments worked together on a project. The lasting effects of this event is that it developed a better sense of community within the library that went on to help us through the pandemic.
