The theme for this year’s holiday card was celebrating everyone’s individual contribution and for being a part of our community. To visually represent that idea, we threw around words like mosaics and quilts and pointillism. Then the word satined glass was mentioned.
Hayden Library at Arizona State University is home to stained glass preserved from the original pre-renovated tower. It was formally placed vertically along the west windows of the building and gave a warmth to the space. The study areas where the stained glass was installed were always filled– especially around sunset. The glass is now an illuminated architectural feature in the Luhrs and Wurzburger Reading Rooms.
The designs of the stained glass are beloved by many and have been referenced in various graphic design projects throughout the years. However, referencing the true essence of the stained glass– the ability for light to shine through and create a kaleidoscope of colors has never been attempted.
Until now.
